Pet Pawtrait Competition Winner 2010

A dog who was going to be put to sleep just the day before she was taken in by Lancaster animal charity Animal Care has won this year’s flynnthedog Pet ‘Pawtrait’ competition.

Maddie, a lurcher who is around two years old, belongs to Allison Rawcliffe of Patterdale Road, Lancaster.

This was a fabulous outcome as the competition was organised to raise funds for Animal Care itself. Maddie was a stray who was found wandering in the Rochdale area. She was taken in by Animal Care in May this year. She was just one day away from being put to sleep. Maddie’s new family rehomed her from Animal Care in October, in the week of the competition!

A total of 30 dogs and two cats from across the district posed for professional photographer Steve Pendrill at the competition which was held at the flynnthedog pet supplies’ premises on Alfred Street, Lancaster on Saturday 2 October.

Judge for the day was local vet James Glass from Lancaster Veterinary Centre.

James said: “All the pictures were great but the staff here unanimously chose the picture of Maddie because her personality shows through. She looks really happy, full of life and contented.”

Allison received a boxed canvas portrait of Maddie worth £85.

Photographer Steve Pendrill said: “This shot of Maddie was one of my favourites as it has a lot of character. I was delighted to be involved with this second Pet ‘Pawtrait’ Competition. Pets are always very unpredictable which can make the photography quite a challenge but it's great fun and very satisfying to be doing my bit for Animal Care too.”

The competition raised a total of £100 for Animal Care.

All the owners who entered their pets in the competition were able to order professional photos of their animal friends.
